Great Expectations
Great Expectations (1946)

IMDB rating: 8.20

Plot: Pip, a good-natured, gullible young orphan, lives with kind blacksmith Joe Gargery and his bossy, abusive wife ‘Mrs. Joe’. When the boy finds two hidden escaped galley convicts, he obeys under -probably unnecessary- threat of a horrible death to bring the criminals food he must steal at peril of more caning from the battle-ax. Just when Pip fears to get it really good while they have guests, a soldier comes for Joe who takes Pip along as assistant to work on the chains of escaped galley-convicts, who are soon caught. The better-natured one takes the blame for the stolen food. Later Pip is invited to became the playmate of Estelle, the equally arrogant adoptive daughter of gloomy, filthy rich Miss Havisham at her estate, who actually has ‘permission’ to break the kind kid’s heart; being the only pretty girl he ever saw, she wins his heart forever, even after a mysterious benefactor pays trough a lawyer for his education and a rich allowance, so he can become a snob in London, by now ‘ashamed’ of simple Joe. Only after years in idle wealth, Pip learns Havisham is not his benefactor as he assumed, and both her story and those of his real sponsor and Estelle…

But more challenges arise for our young hero. Peter’s old friend Harry Obsourne has set out for revenge against Peter; taking up the mantle of his late father’s persona as The New Goblin, and Peter must also capture Uncle Ben’s real killer, Flint Marko, who has been transformed into his toughest foe yet, the Sandman. All hope seems lost when suddenly Peter’s suit turns jet-black and greatly amplifies his powers. But it also begins to greatly amplify the much darker qualities of Peter’s personality that he begins to lose himself to. My girlfriend is into rape fantasy and I wasn't?
To make it short she told me about her rape fantasy and wanted me to role-play as the aggressor. Well I did… just for her and apparently I didn’t like it cause I don’t think I can do it again, if she asked me to. Don’t get me wrong I love spanking and being rough and dominant… but not so much as a rapist. I mean it went against everything that I consider myself to be, for example I already made up my mind that if I ever see a woman thats about to get rape or things such as that, that I would step in and stop it even if it means risking my life. Thats my fantasy haha anyways so right now I’m wondering what to do about it.

Of course first thing came to mind was talking to her about it but then again I rather not let her repress this fantasy of hers. Which could mean that I might as well just end it… cause it is her fantasy and where mine is the exact opposite. So any people around here that had shared their fantasy with their partner but couldnt go through with it one?

Dont think of it as that.

Have a talk with her about it. Communication is everything in a relationship. Most guys have a fantasy of two women at once but guess how many actually get to live that? I can see your point and understand where your coming from and she will too. Good luck.

Would U Sleep Wiv Someone If They Had A Bad Skin Condition?
So i have a skin condition thats mild, but its still ugly in my body. Would men be put of sleeping wiv me? … Maybe i should only look for a guy who would admire my personality and not my beauty right?
Its a skin desease.. its just considered a mild case. but its not nice to look at. Ppl will be scared, i know my family are. =(
Its getting better, but slowly.

its a skin condition not a disease. there are lots of people out their in similar situations. the person should sleep with you because they love you. and if they do they honestly wouldn’t care about a skin condition. i liked a girl with cystic fibrosis. which by the way is a disease that makes the person cough alot because of mucus build up inside their body. but i didn’t think twice about it. it didnt change the way i thought about her and i didnt care because i loved her. so really if the guy truly loves you then yes he would. the person on the inside that counts. ive seen a guy get married to a woman who was 3 ft 4 and he was 5 ft 9. on his wedding day do you think he cared? i dont

Maybe it’ll prevent every shallow moron from coming on to you, so that you’ll end up with someone who actually cares about you eventually instead.

sexy mum43 | Feb 01, 2010

Of course everyone has imperfections and if a man did it wouldn’t bother me I have terrible skin I get rings of dry skin which get really deep and sore and are extremely unsightly to the point I don’t like wearing short sleeve tops, its not a skin condition but its something that I feel conscious about I am also super pale so when i wear fake tan I get massive brown spots where the tan won’t absorb so I cant wear it, although the first thing that comes is looks (obviously you look at the person) I great personality shines through anything and the person who Truly loves you will think you are beautiful :) Victoria | Feb 01, 2010

You wouldn’t know this yet, simply because you are younger, but it’s not looks that keep committed people together.

If ‘you’love ‘you’ then no one else could fail to love you either. Learning to love yourself is the greatest, and hardest, thing to do.

How do you learn to love yourself? Go do something for someone less fortunate than you - keep doing it, then do some more. Before you know it, EVERYONE will love you and you’ll find your special someone - promise!

Well yeah, I would definitely only sleep with someone you truly cared about, who truly cared about you. He wouldn’t mind though, especially since he was gonna get some.. guys can look past a lot if they’re going to get some.

Plot: The US Coast Guard version of “Top Gun” with a little “An Officer and A Gentleman” thrown in: an aging USCG rescue swimmer’s team is killed in a horrific rescue mission. Immediately prior to this terrible event, his wife also announced that she cannot take anymore. His first love is always the rescue mission. This leaves him an obviously emotional wreck. His commender gives him a choice - quit or take a position as an instructor at the USCG training facility in Louisiana. Reluctantly he takes the position. Moving into the school, he immediately increases the 18 week curriculum that routinely fails half of the people that attend. Here he meets a young man with unlimited potential, but with some secret that seems to hold him back as a team player. Delving into his past, links are found that make him a psychic twin to the older man. Thrown into the midst of the story is a romance with a local girl. Rescue missions punctuate the beginning and end of the story with the training sessions the center of the film.

I need specific page numbers for Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro quotes.?
I am doing a book report and need specific page numbers for these 2 quotes for Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro:

"We certainly knew — though not in any deep sense — that we were different from our guardians, and also from the normal people outside; we perhaps even knew that a long way down the line there were donations waiting for us. But we didn’t really know what that meant. If we were keen to avoid certain topics, it was probably more because it embarrassed us."

"None of you will go to America, none of you will be film stars. And none of you will be working in supermarkets as I heard some of you planning the other day. Your lives are set out for you. You’ll become adults, then before you’re old, before you’re even middle-aged, you’ll start to donate your vital organs. That’s what each of you was created to do. "

Should I also bring stuff that I want to have with me at AIT even though I know it will be taken away during Basic Training?

Wow. That’s a fantastic list you have there. Sounds like you’re doing the right thing by getting prepared. I had almost this same list when I went to Basic (minus the feminine stuff). Only thing I didn’t see was a good LED flashlight (one that can switch between red and white light). You’ll need this during fire guard, which is also a good time to write letters. Just be careful with the important documents you probably don’t need most of these, but it’s better to have them and not need them than to deal with trying to get them. Just keep them together in an envelope so they don’t get lost when the DS dumps your bag out on the floor with everyone else’s. You can also get ready by asking your recruiter for a "Smart Book" so you can start memorizing the soldier’s creed, rank structure, etc. ahead of time and be in good enough shape to run several miles about 3 or more days a week. Good luck!

Andy O | Jan 15, 2010

Bring a little key chain size LED flashlight. Preferably one with red lens/bulb.

Also as a medic I don’t like toothbrush holders. Odds are you aren’t going to be dropping your toothbrush all over the place right? Those little holders trap in moisture and let bacteria grow on your bristles. I always recommend letting it sit free so it can dry in your toilet/shave kit.

Stuff that you want with you at AIT, I would recommend packing up a box with the stuff you want and having somebody drop it off at the post office once you get to AIT. You’re going to have a duffel bag, a garment bag and all the stuff you already have on that list to carry and get on a plane with.

The lighter you travel the better.

Why do African-Americans stereotype everything successful as white and everything unsuccessful as black?
Hmm?

They consider someone that behaves like the "typical educated male/female" whitewashed or uncle Tom but someone that is the "stereotypical African-American man/female" perfectly normal.

Why do these savages set themselves to FAIL???

Why do so many white people hate blacks and spend hours trying to look like one ?

Joe | Feb 08, 2010

Well, not all of them ”fail” as you say. And I know alot of people who are dark skinned, and only their great great great great grandparents were black. And I believe that when a black person is mad at a white person, they probrably still hold this thing against them thinking that the whites wouldn’t exept them, like in the olden days. And I think that people are racist against blacks becuase they feel that they are the better people, that they are more classy. But really, it doesn’t matter what race you are. I sometimes joke around about races, but really, we are all people, not dogs or whatever.
me | Feb 08, 2010

I think all those years you spent living in that sh..it hole Sudan, swating flies off your booty-hole, and all those parasites that came off of it made your little brain shrink.
inferior IQ's momma | Feb 08, 2010

Savages. Wow. Sounds like something from a Tarzan movie. Anyway, being a Black female raised in the South, I, unfortunately, was raised and taught that "White is right." My mother came from an era where Blacks were still riding on the backs of buses and dropping out of school to help on the farms. My step-grandfather was Black, but he did not like Blacks that were too "dark". In fact, my mother was told not to marry my father because he was too "dark". In fact, certain relatives received special treatment because of the lightness of their skin, and the texture of their hair. This is something that was taught and ingrained in the psyche of Black people from the days of slavery, and, unfortunately, it still exists (no matter how stupid it sounds). I was taught that if I wanted to go to a good grocery store, to go where the White people shopped because that’s where the better sales, produce, and meats would be. When my mother wanted something fancy to wear, we would go to a department store that catered predinently to White people because she thought that was where the good stuff was. My mother was a school teacher, and after bouncing around to a few substandard public schools, she made sure that I landed at one that was predominently white and affluent (she had to pull strings for that).

So, I say all of this to say that the baffoonery of setting oneself to fail could be something that is generationally handed down. We are a complex people who are mixed with many different races, but all under the title African American, or Black. We are also made up of hudreds of different hues of browns to even pinks like Whites. It is easy to set yourself to fail if you believe that you as a race are nothing, or not as important as others. It is also easy to set yourself up for failure if your family contributes to the ignorance.

Once, if we ever get to the point of not focusing on races and just focusing on people and their problems, we’ll be able to move past a lot of the issues that the "savages" are encoutering, and then they will be able to begin to focus on success rather than failure. It is happening now, but you don’t see it because there is no emphasis on it.

Also, every February, some school wants to drag my kids down to a plantation and show them the basements, slave quarters, and shackles that were used during the slavery days to commemorate Black History Month. I ask you this: If people want Blacks to succeed, why don’t they take the children to a corporate office or a college and show the children business men/women, professors, and college students?

I had a bad day, what now?
It’s 6:30 pm, already the end of the day, it’s cold and dark out, so taking a stroll is out, so what do I do to cheer myself up? I have nothing to look forward to tomorrow either since I’m going to get yelled at by my teachers (scolded really, I deserve it, don’t ask why, but STILL! It’s not helping!)

Let me tell you what happened
I overslept, forgot my jacket, only had on a sweater to combat the cold, when I get to school, I find out I have a new awful 2nd period teacher I hate (new semester started, so I get some new classes) I get thrown back into the cold by security, telling me I can’t go in until lunch is over, wander around in the cold, come back in, get to 3rd period late, get scolded, and since 3rd period is a new class too and I missed the first day of class, not only do I not have the homework, but everyone’s already chummy chummy with others and in their own little groups *cries* (this is something established on the first day of class, which I wasn’t there for) not ONLY that, but I have class with my 2 old crushes that both REJECTED me, AND I have a cold so I had to keep sniffing to keep my drippy nose in check ><

Next period was WORSE! 4th period, also a new class, everyone was chummy chummy *again* i tried to breach the barrier by talking to the girls next to me and they Move. Away. Why? Well, after some snickers and giggles and whispers with my name being called, I turned around and asked "What’s so funny?" no one spoke. I sit back down, a pencil is thrown at my head. I stand up and go to the direction it came from. A group of boys. I ask "Who did it?" and they point fingers at each other, making it impossible for me to figure out who did it. The teacher comes and asks me to sit down, I tell her what happened, she says sit down, again. Finally, a girl says, giggling "You have something brown on your pants" Everyone laughs. I go to the bathroom, indeed, a light brown chunk of chocolate that I had unknowingly sat on. I’m able to take it off completely, thankfully, and when I return to class, they laugh. Again. We break up into groups, and the teacher unmercifully says we get to pick our own groups. Obviously no one wants to pair with me. I bravely get up, and walk over to the group of boys that had earlier thrown the pencil at me. I say "You wanna be in a group, you damned pencil throwers?" They agree, and after a couple funny jokes on my part, they tell me it was just to get my attention because they liked me, and that they hadn’t even noticed the chocolate until the girls said so. Once I befriends those boys, the other boys come flocking, and now I’m friends with the boys in the class, but the girls are another story. They REALLY don’t seem to like me, and look for any chance to pick at any little flaw.

I’ve never had this problem before, where someone doesn’t like me, so I don’t know what to do. Closest thing I ever got to this was in 9th grade where this boy picked on me so much I cried, but then he said he liked me and we became friends (not really, I still couldn’t forgive him for making me cry, but I’d wave back whenever he said hi to me in the halls and he wasn’t picking on me anymore)

I’m not the fat, glasses wearing shy kid in the corner, I’m stylish, tall, have long, perfectly blow dried and styled hair everyday (with protection, so as not to ruin my hair) I’m outgoing, friendly, energetic, I don’t have any acne or facial scars, pale skin, good body (I get especially commented on my flat stomach) I’ve never stolen anyone’s boyfriend (heck, I can’t even get my own, the 2 guys rejected me TT well, not really, the timing was off, one was about to leave as an exchange student last year to china, right before I asked him, he said he didn’t want a long distance relationship and to ask him again when he got back, but I can’t do that now because my other crush that I had confessed to*at a different time, of course* is in the same class and he’ll think I didn’t really like him and that I’m just confessing to anyone which is not true but it’s not like crush #2 and I can be together right now because I confessed to him at the wrong time too and AAARGH!! let’s not get into THAAAAAT, my major problem is period 4 with the girls!)

So what do I do with them? I can’t hide behind the boys in the class forever! But if I go to them it feels like they’ll eat me ALIVE!!! So I figured I could perfect my outfit ahead of time, make sure there are NO flaws, and then they might not have anything to make fun of me for? Then again, there are always things like "look at the way she walks" or "look at the way she talks" "look at the way she picks up her paper" bla bla bla TT

I REFUSE to switch classes, it’ll feel like I’m running away like a coward!

Any words of wisdom? PLEASE GIVE ME SOMETHING TO CHEER ME UP!! Some hilarious joke or personal experience? Make me laugh people!! And please give me some advice on how to cheer myself up! What do you do when you’re down? Mind you it’s nighttim

Cheer up, you sound like a wonderful girl and everyone in the wold goes through embarrassing days in school. Soon enough no one will even remember it, and so what if they do?

Don’t let them get you down, it’s not worth the trouble. Keep being yourself and laugh…seriously…you had some chocolate stains on your butt. That’s funny. It’s less funny because it was you, but you’d laugh if it was someone else. They’re not laughing at you, they’re laughing at the situation. Don’t take it personally and move on.

I would stick that brownie on their chairs so they all sit on it. But other then that, you sound like a great person, so just be friends with the boys, girls are mean, sometimes excluding people. So don’t worry about them you’re never gonna get everyone in the world to like you. I they have a problem with you then that’s their loss. Just think that. Hang with the guys there’s nothing wrong with that.

And she didn’t think they were very appropriate"
So now she has grounded me from talking to him.
And is making us move to California with my dad so that I wont be able
to see him.
And the thing is that… the worse thing i said in those messages is "i love you my crazy fu**** ;)
And i was just joking. So I’ve had a bad day
btw I’ve been dating this guy for 10 months =(

Who cares what those girls think!? I know this is probably going to sound like all the other answers, but really! Who cares! And think, you have all these potentially good friends, and possibly boyfriends, they are making themselves look bad in front of the guys. Because the guys are on your side, and are probably mad at the girls for making you feel so horrible. If you’re still feeling really bad, I’d suggest listening to music. It’s amazing how music can make you feel something totally different than before. It really works! And if it doesn’t, you could draw some pictures of those girls being eaten by a slug!

I would go for it if I had the $98 to shell out for it. But just look around a bit online and through stores in person for a better price. I am sure you can get this for $40 or less. Good luck!
